We need your help!

There are many opportunities to contribute to the Joseph Taylor Family Association! If you are interested please contact us and we can put you to work! Here are just a few ways you can help:

Donations

If you are short on time, please consider a donation to the Joseph Taylor, Sr. Family Association. Your monetary contribution helps us maintain this website, send out the Taylor Times newsletter, and hire professional genealogists to assist us with connected Joseph Taylor to his ancestors in England.

FamilySearch “Watchers” or “Followers”

Slicers and others can help maintain information in the free online resource on FamilySearch.org. FamilySearch.org has a massive family tree and billions of historical records that are free to use. The site employs a “collaborative tree” approach which means that anyone can add, remove, or alter information about individuals in the tree. Most of the time this is a good time, but occasionally people introduce errors to our family line.

You can use the “Follow” feature (formerly known as “Watch”) in FamilySearch to be notified whenever data about a person in the tree is changed. If you see an error introduced, change it back and make an effort to reach out to the individual that put in the incorrect information.

Taylor Family Association Death Index

Ron Taylor, the former Database Manager, led an incredible effort to document the death and burial information for every known death of descendants of Joseph and Nancy Taylor since January 1, 2000. The index is stored in a shared Google spreadsheet that everyone can see (click the green button below). Since the passing of Ron Taylor in January 2025, our NEW Database Manager Nancy Gregory has taken on this task and is seeking your help in locating information for those on this Death Index.

If you have information about relatives that are not listed, or have more precise death dates for those with a red background, please email Nancy Gregory at ngregory16@taylorassociation.org

Legacy Consultants Needed for an Exciting New Adventure!

The Taylor Family Association maintains a master database of all descendants of Joseph and Nancy Taylor. There are currently over 276,000 individuals in the database, which we estimate we have less than 50% of the living descendants. TFA is embarking on a new project that we would like you to consider becoming a Legacy Consultant.

Legacy consultants will share with family and friends what they have learned about a principal line of the Joseph Taylor Jr. Family. This can take the form of answering questions, sharing family stories, and gathering research and media about this principal person in their family. You may also participate with some genealogy research and collaboration projects.

The principal lines will include the 11 children of Joseph Taylor Jr. (Frances, Amy, Deliah, Allen, Mary Ann, Seraphy Temperance, Sarah Best “Sallie,” Joseph Best, Elizabeth Ann “Betsy,” and Charlotte except for William’s family which will be sub-divided to his children (John, Allen, Julia Ann, Mary Ann, Louisa Bome, Elizabeth Ann, Sarah Kendrick Best, Joseph, Pleasant Green, William Warren, Levi, Nancy Jane, Amanda Melvina, and James Caldwell) and in some cases where there are multiple wives by wife (Allen: Sarah Lovisa Allred, Hannah Egbert, Elizabeth Durdle Smith, and Phoebe Ann Roberts. Joseph: Mary Moore, Jane Lake, Hannah Mariah Harris, and Caroline Mattson. Pleasant Green: Clarissa Lake, Mary Eliza Shurtliff, Jane Narcissus Shurtliff, and Sarah Jane Marler. William Warren: Julia Aner Carbine and Mary Adelia Carbine. James Caldwell: Sarah Maria Hyde and Lucy Jane Lake, because of their large posterity.

We are all very proud of this family’s heritage. We welcome you to share your stories and contributions to this great country with others. We will also provide you access to our free Zoom tools and a database slice of the lineage as we have it. Plus, use of the TFA website for sharing and collaborating. (Training will be available). The time commitment will vary based on the family line and family projects. We project 2-8 hours a month. We also anticipate one or two Zoom calls a year with the Consultant Group to council and collaborate on project and research.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Gordon Taylor with your commitment and questions. We would love to have you personally share your love for our family. Be a “Legacy Consultant”! If you are willing to help by becoming a Legacy Consultant, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Vice President of Descendancy Research, Gordon Taylor.

We use Legacy Family Tree (LFT) software to manage the data. This is a free version of this desktop software. LFT has powerful tools for merging multiple files into our master database. We endorse the use of LFT for all family members. Below is an introduction to our collaboration model using Legacy Family Tree.
