William Pace Goddard was born 4/16/1853 on his father’s, William Pettibone Goddard’s ranch, at New Harmony, Washington, Utah.

William Pettibone Goddard was born 1/10/1827, Schulykill Haven, Schulykill, Pennsylvania; and died 12/23/1903; New Harmony, Washington, Utah. He married Mary Ann Pace 8/10/1851, Payson, Utah. She was born 10/20/1835 in Illinois. She was the daughter of Lt. James Pace, Jr. of the Mormon Battalion, and Lucinda Gibson Strickland. Mary Ann was the granddaughter of Capt. James Pace, Sr., who was killed at the Battle of New Orleans, War of 1812, and Mary Ann Loving. Mary Ann Pace died 3/31/1876, Illinois.

William Pace Goddard married Anna Krilla Taylor 1/1/1877, New Harmony, Washington, Utah. Anna Krilla Taylor, born 8/16/1859 at Kaysville, Davis, Utah. She died 1/13/1955 Benson, Cochise, Arizona. She was the daughter of Allen Taylor born 1/17/1814, near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky. He died 12/5/1891, Loa, Wayne, Utah. Because of his successful removal of those Mormons who were left, at Nauvoo, because they were too sick or poor to leave; and were finally driven out; that Brigham Young appointed Allen Taylor “Captain of Hundreds” of one of the Brigham Young 1848 Immigration Wagon Trains. He was responsible for the safety and guidance of 190 wagons and 597 people. Anna Krilla Taylor’s mother was Hannah Egbert, the daughter of John Egbert and Susana Hahn.

William Pace Goddard and Anna Krilla Taylor, who were married 1/1/1877 joined the San Juan Mission, leaving their home at New Harmony with their two small children: William Herbert and Maud Anna. The family is shown in the 1880 U.S. Census, Bluff City, San Juan, Utah: Wm. Goddard age 27, Farmer, Karilla, (Misspelled), age 20, William H. age 2, Maud A. age 1.

William’s younger brother Sidney C. Goddard is not listed with them in this Census, but was with them throughout their journey.

Due to the difficult conditions at Bluff City, William and Anna Krilla joined a large group of Mormons hoping to settle in New Mexico. Again, faced with having to blaze their own trails, making log rafts to get their wagons across rivers, for a time working for the D&RG railroad to earn money for their trip; and finally settling at Pleasanton, New Mexico Territory; which later became Catron County, NM.

After the Law was passed, Prohibiting Polygamy, many families moved to Mexico. William Pace Goddard bought their land and that of an Army Garrison, no longer there; making him one of the largest land holders in the District. He, and his increasing family, made their way South and East through Silver City. They are listed in the 1900 U.S. Census at Alma, Socorro, NM, then, further North-East, in the 1910 U.S. Census at Mesilla Park, Dona Ana, NM.; a suburb of Las Cruces, so that his children, and grandchildren could further their education. Some attended The New Mexico Agricultural and Mechanical College, which is now named New Mexico State University. They then moved to the South to El Paso, Texas where he was successful in property investments.

He died in El Paso 1/23/1923, Anna Krilla died 1/13/1955 Benson, Cochise, Arizona.
