Joseph Nicholas Taylor was born 5 March 1857, near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky. He remained on the farm where he was born.
He had, on attaining the age of eighteen, received a fair common school education, which he supplemented with a course in Prof. J. H. Hinton’s Academy, in Simpson County, Kentucky. At the age of twenty, he left school and took charge of his father’s farm of 240 acres, eventually owning a large interest; he had for eight years managed his farming interests successfully. His attention was given principally to stock breeding. He also invested some capital in Florida lands with a view of engaging in orange culture.
“Mr. Taylor”s religious views were based on the tenets of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in which he held the office of Steward. He was a Republican, and lent his influence to his party and friends, but was no aspirant for political honors or office for himself.
We know that Joseph Nicholas, who attended the October 1909 Taylor Family Reunion at Richardsville, was instrumental in its success.
Joseph Nicholas married (1) 30 November 1882, Louisa Elrod, at Warren County, Kentucky. She was born 16 May 1854, at Warren County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Thomas S. Elrod and Mary Brown. Louisa died 16 December 1915, near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky. She and Joseph Nicholas had no children. On 20 January 1917, Joseph Nicholas Taylor married Minnie Love (Hendricks), a widow. She and Joseph Nicholas had no children.
Joseph Nicholas Taylor died 24 May 1931 near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky.
