Joseph Everett Taylor was born 18 October 1851, near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky.
In 1853, he located on Little Reedy Creek, (called Taylor Port), in Butler county, with his parents and family. Joseph E. Taylor received a limited education in youth.
He married 24 October 1872, Delilah A. McClung, at Butler County, Kentucky. Delilah was born 10 April 1855, the daughter of Thomas McClung and Delilah Burchfield.

Joseph E. and Delilah had seven children: Minnie (died at birth); Lillie Florence; George Milton; Millard; Octavia; Thomas S. and E. Leyburn Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was a farmer, having 400 acres of productive land. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity, and in politics, a Republican.

Joseph E. died 25 November 1935, at Butler County, Kentucky. Delilah died 5 December 1941, at Butler County. Both of them were buried at the Taylor Cemetery located off Hill Shed Road on the old Joe Taylor farm (later belonging to Cleot Gabbard), Butler County, Kentucky.
