Joseph F. Davenport (1854-1935)

Joseph Fortunatus Davenport, born 6 November 1854, near Richardsville, Warren, Kentucky.

He married (1) 30 July 1876, Sarah Frances Young, at Warren County, Kentucky.

Sarah Frances Young was born 28 January 1860 at Warren County, Kentucky, the daughter of James Hudnall Young and Louisa Miller.

Joseph F. and Sarah F. lived in Kentucky for five years, then moved with their family to a farm near Arcadia, Crawford, Kansas in the Fall of 1881. Two of their ten children were born in Kentucky, the rest in Kansas. Joseph was involved in a bad farm accident when a rig overturned and broke his leg which later had to be amputated. This accident forced the family to move into Arcadia, where Joseph became a mail carrier and sold insurance. He also became a city clerk and police judge. Joseph was a member and senior elder of the Christian Church.

After the death of Sarah Frances on 13 May 1926, at Arcadia, Crawford, Kansas, who died suddenly of uremic poisoning, he married (2) 7 December 1927, Frances Schmale.

Joseph died of stomach cancer on 14 October 1935.
