We are descendants of a Colonial Virginia family working together to provide a more accurate history of our family origins and to record our continuing story for the rising generations.

This website is dedicated to the family history, both ancestry and descendancy, of Joseph Taylor (b. about 1728 in Virginia) and of Nancy, his wife (surname unknown).

About 1756, Joseph moved his family to

North Carolina to take up a large land grant with two other Taylor men, Richard and Thomas, who may have been related.  He died about 1808 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. The map below represents deeds of land that we think belonged to Richard Taylor & Roger Hodges who came to the new world on the ship Truelove in 1635 and eventually married the Manning sisters. Richard Taylor & Thomas Nash jointly owned the 446 acres and their property straddles Julian Creek. We continue to search for corroborating evidence regarding this current family theory.

Visit our Taylor Heritage page to learn more about competing theories of the origin of Joseph Taylor, Sr.

About 1808, his son Joseph (b. about 1751 in Virginia), a Revolutionary War veteran, and his wife, Sarah Best, moved to Warren County, Kentucky, with their 12 children.  Among those children were Latter-day Saint pioneers William Taylor and his wife, Elizabeth Patrick.

This large memorial was erected by the Taylor Family Association in Richardsville, Warren County, Kentucky in May 1928 for Joseph Taylor, Jr and his wife, Sarah Best. The “Sr.” is an error. In addition, in the decades since we have learned it is likely that Joseph Taylor was born in Norfolk County, Virginia and not Orange County as shown on the marker.
